Merry {Ugly} Christmas : )

Mike had an ugly sweater bar hop to attend and after seeing this on pinterest I knew that last minute craftiness was in order... I free handed all the shapes out of felt and then hot-glued on his buttons and booties and sewed down the rest.  It was the least stressful craft I have done since the whole goal was to make something ugly..... check : )

A Visit from the Tooth Fairy

My daughter recently lost her first tooth and the tooth fairy was ready at our house!  I found great ideas on Pinterest and went a little wild:)  The reaction when she saw what the tooth fairy left was priceless.

 Grandma and Grandpa have a fairy door on one of their trees and the kids are very entertained by it.  Once I saw this  I knew the tooth fairy had to leave a door at our house.  This door magically appeared over night when the tooth fairy stopped by to collect the tooth.  It is placed in between the wall that separates the kids' bedrooms, so easily accessible for the tooth fairy to visit either child;)

 Well what did she put her tooth in?

 This cute pouch.  I used the dimensions from this tutorial to make the pouch.  Then I had Grandma (thank you!) sew it together quick and sew on the ribbon so it would loop around the door knob.  I then used my Silhouette and Amy Robison's awesome tooth fairy kit to cut out heat transfer for the pouch and then ironed it on.  The "tooth fairy" then attached a mini key to her door on the ribbon of the bag.  We also used Amy Robison's Lost Tooth Certificate to document the big day.  So much fun!

Since we did my daughter's pouch I went ahead and made one for my son as well, now I just have to hang onto it until he looses his teeth in a few years!

Car Garage

My son likes to try to take his toy cars to bed with him. Bad part is they keep him up - he tries to play with them, runs them up and down the wall, then ends up rolling on top of them when he falls asleep.  I  noticed that he likes to put his stuffed animals "to sleep." So, I thought, if he had somewhere to put his cars to sleep, maybe they wouldn't end up in bed with him every night.  

 My daughter "donated" her shoe box for this craft.  I put the lid on the bottom of the box. I cut off the front panel of the box and used it to make dividers.  I cut a slit in the back and front of the box to slide in the dividers.

 Then I used some fun duct tape that I picked up at Home Depot (great selection of designs!) to wrap the shoe box and divider to make it more steady and durable.  Since my son likes to tuck in his animals with a blanket I figured the cars should probably have a blanket too.  I took some extra felt I had and cut it with pinking sheers so that it would have a fun edge to it.

Overall, my son is enjoying this greatly.  He has it placed on his bookcase and part of our bedtime routine is to now tuck his cars into bed before he gets into bed.  First thing in the morning he "wakes" them up.  Very cute.

Felt Fun

I saw this Roll a Jack-O-Lantern Game over at the Oopsey Daisy Blog and thought it would be fun to make out of felt for the kids' felt boards.  I made up several sets of eyes, mouths, noses and teeth to make lots of different pumpkins.  I used liquid stitch to attach the stems and the black and white together for eyes.

Then I still had plenty of orange felt left over to make the Roll-A-Lorax Game that I found at the Smashed Peas and Carrots Blog.  The kids really enjoy this movie and got a kick out of making their own.  Especially when we tried on the mustaches ourselves:)

Happy Halloween!

I saw this and decided to give it a go on our door.  I always see a project and think, "Oh yea, I could whip that out."  This took an hour.  I left a spot on the bottom of the door so the kids could still peek out the bottom of it.  It looked great the first few days.




Then by the end of the month you can see the mummy started to come unwrapped:)  Two looks for the price and time of one.  Our glass door gets a lot of sun in the afternoons and the tape I used on the inside of the door, as well as the streamers modified itself in the heat.  Hard to see from the picture but bright white at the beginning of the month and by the end streamers had yellow a bit, just like a real mummy - ha!

 I got the kiddos involved a few days later as we made pumpkin puzzles.  Saw a good tutorial and knew I had some orange sticks in the craft stash.  We used 5 sticks per puzzle and taped the outside edges to draw our pumpkins.  The we took the tape off and mixed them all up.

When we mixed just the 5 up - each puzzle went together pretty quick.  But them we mixed all the sticks up and it took them a little longer to do an we ended up with some fun faces in the process.
